Wherever it exists.

You can make a difference in the lives of animals who cannot speak for themselves, help us to protect animals and help to prosecute those who abuse them.

It is illegal to neglect, abuse, torment or torture an animal.
It is illegal to steal or kill a pet.
It is illegal to participate in dog-fighting even as a spectator.

South Carolina law prohibits these activities and a conviction of animal cruelty may bring a fine of up to $5,000 and imprisonment for up to five years. The Charleston Animal Society is an integral part of local cruelty investigations and houses, protects and treats hundreds of abuse cases each year. Please consider making a donation to support our efforts.

Getting Laws Changed

The Charleston Animal Society,Humane Net and other animal organizations from around the state are hard at work introducing new wording for existing animal cruelty laws to strengthen penalties and enforce the existing laws. If you would like to be a voice for animals and help to enact new and improved laws which protect animals and their care, please consider donating to Caitlyn’s Anti-Cruelty Fund.
