Toby’s Fund Saves Lives
Who is caring for the abused, abandoned, neglected and unwanted animals in our community? We are! Every day we provide medical and behavioral treatment, along with l ots of love– to animals brought to us by Good Samaritans, law enforcement and animal control officers.
Your financial support of Toby’s Fund will enable us to continue saving more and more “broken” animals who enter our doors and are then adopted into a new, loving home.
As we continue to treat the most difficult cases throughout Charleston County, there simply aren’t enough dollars to keep up with the volumeof medical needs, but we won’t give up!
We see it all–dogs who have outgrown their collars, which become embedded in their necks, dehydrated and starved animals whose owners have discarded them, pets abandoned by hit-and-run drivers who left them for dead, females who have been bred over and over again until there is little life left in them, dogs suffering from heartworm– whose owners didn’t protect them, or animals suffering from a number of conditions that went untreated.
While most animal shelters won’t treat these conditions, we work very hard every day to raise the funds needed to save these adorable living creatures, who through no fault of their own, wind up forsaken by their owners. The numbers are overwhelming, but over the past five years, we have managed to build up our capacity to care for thousands of animals each year in need of some form of medical treatment.
Who is Toby?
Toby is a beautiful golden retriever mix who came to us suffering from chemical burns over a large portion of his body. Despite his dire condition, our medical team could see the fight in his eyes and proceeded with weeks of intense treatment.
He bounced back stronger than ever and Toby was quickly adopted by a new loving family. His story inspired all of us at the shelter, just like so many of the other animals that now benefit from our fund named in his honor.
