Mojo Will Always Be Missed
Through April 26th, honor a local fallen K9 Officer with a donation to Charleston Animal Society.
Mojo, a beloved K9 with North Charleston Police Department, was killed in the line of duty on February 15th. Mojo and his handler, Officer Brandon Van Ausdal, were responding to a burglary in progress call with lights and sirens activated when a person arrested for drunk driving pulled out in front of them. Although rushed to the emergency veterinary clinic, Mojo’s injuries were too great for him to overcome and he passed away. His handler, Officer Van Ausdal, is still recovering from injuries he sustained in the accident.
Donate in Mojo’s Honor
The Colonial Grand at Cypress Cove Apartment Community in West Ashley and its parent company MAA will be planting a tree in honor of Mojo on April 27, 2018 (Arbor Day). Officer Van Ausdal and Mojo previously resided at an MAA apartment community. He and his wife are working closely with MAA to raise donations of money, food, toys and cleaning supplies that will help the animals at Charleston Animal Society in memory of Mojo. Non-cash donations will be accepted at all Charleston Area MAA Communities. Click Here for an MAA location closest to you.

Mojo Honored
Mojo was honored with a full police motorcade and memorial service attended by police and K9 officers from across the state. Mojo served in the police department for 5 years and was instrumental in numerous arrests. “Two-legged or four, all working in police service are considered officers,” said North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey.
Charleston Animal Society will be honoring Police K9s like Mojo with a memorial on our animal care campus later this Spring. Carolina Tailshas dedicated the Spring issue’s back cover to Mojo to thank him for his years of tireless service. He will be missed.
