Charleston Animal Society is offering fee-waived adoptions on all adult dogs and cats from Wednesday, May 29th through Sunday, June 2nd. As the area’s only open admissions shelter, Charleston Animal Society takes in 90% of the community’s animals and never turns an animal away. The shelter is currently beyond its capacity and is in dire need of space to ease overcrowding.
All animals come spayed or neutered, are fully vaccinated, microchipped, and are eligible for a free health exam from most veterinarians. Chief Executive Officer of Charleston Animal Society Joe Elmore said, “We currently have more animals in our system than in any other time in its history and we really need the community to come to our assistance and help us make desperately needed space in the shelter.”
Charleston Animal Society currently has 700 animals both in-house and in foster homes. As we get into the summer months, we know that the inflow of animals will only increase. Elmore said, “The most important thing we do is save lives, and we need the public’s assistance in helping us achieve our goal of finding good homes for all healthy and treatable animals that come through our doors.”
