Assistant Resale Store Manager

Job Summary: Charleston Animal Society needs a full time Assistant Resale Store Manager to assist in running its resale store located in the Dorchester Road/Ashley Phosphate Road area of North Charleston.  The resale store solicits and accepts donations of used home goods and then sells them to fund the lifesaving efforts of Charleston Animal Society.

Key Responsibilities: The Assistant Resale Store Manager is responsible for the day to day operations including, but not limited to:

  • Capable of running all operations of the Resale Store while store manager is off premises.
  • Training, and supervising a team of customer service oriented volunteers and staff.
  • Scheduling the workforce to optimize ROI on all shifts.
  • Setting an example for all staff with a friendly demeanor and excellent customer service skills.
  • Keeping the store stocked with merchandise and attractively displayed.
  • Providing a clean, organized, and inviting environment that reflects brand standards.
  • Assisting the Store Manager in managing the store’s budget and controlling expenses while driving sales.
  • Handling all receivables and managing the in-kind donation entries in the donation software.
  • Properly maintain inventory, stocking, ordering and merchandising of retail area.
  • Analyzing trends and formulation action plans regarding assortment, merchandising, advertising, and pricing.
  • Assist in marketing plans, managing all social media forums, and updating the website.
  • Develop creative ideas to drive not just donations, but business through the store.

The ideal candidate will have management experience in the retail/resale trade; better yet in a thrift or consignment store.  We are looking for a candidate that will have:

  • A minimum of 1-3 years of retail management experience.
  • Experience working with and motiving staff and volunteers.
  • Knowledge of pricing and value of furniture and other home goods.
  • Excellent verbal communication and customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of local, state and federal laws and regulations, which relate to retail.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate well with the public.
  • Strategic and tactical planning experience and creative thinking ability.
  • Ability to represent Charleston Animal Society to a wide and varied audience.
  • Ability to work with shifting priorities and in an organization, which is highly visible in the community.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated passion for the mission of Charleston Animal Society and the overall welfare of companion animals.
  • Knowledge of issues, concerns and challenges facing animal welfare organizations.
  • Demonstrated personal credibility and ability to lead others with honesty and integrity.
  • Sense of humor and ability to put issues in perspective.
  • Associate’s, Bachelor’s or advanced degree preferred or commensurate retail experience.
  • Computer experience including working with inventory control and financial software.
  • Preferred knowledge of QuickBooks, Excel, and Word.
  • A flexible schedule allowing him/her to work weekends.
  • Valid driver’s license required and must have excellent driving record.
  • Occasional travel throughout Charleston County, the State and Nation.
  • Must be self-guided individual requiring minimal supervision.
  • Physical requirements include, but are not limited to, walking, standing and moving of equipment and possibly animals.
  • Applicants must be self-motivated, reliable, enthusiastic and willing to get their hands dirty.  This is, at times, a physical position.  Applicants must be able to stand for long periods of time and lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Drug test, Motor Vehicle check, and background check is required.

Additional Information: 

  • Must be at least 21 years’ old.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid South Carolina driver’s license required and must have excellent driving record.
  • Must be self-guided individual requiring minimal supervision.
  • Physical requirements include, but are not limited to, stooping, crouching, bending, lifting, lowering, reaching, twisting, pulling, pushing, carting and carrying are intermittent tasks that routinely occur.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. without help and up to 300 lbs. with the assistance of a dolly.
  • Must stand for long periods of time.
  • Most work will be both outdoors and indoors with general warehouse conditions, in which some work areas may not be heated or air conditioned.
  • Regularly required to climb stairs.
  • Must have a full range of motion and dexterity.
