Getting Started

Volunteer orientation is a required first step for all volunteers. Currently, orientations are held virtually over Zoom.

Please click the ‘Get Started’ button above to fill out our volunteer application and sign up for an orientation time.

Why Do We Need Volunteers?

Each year Charleston Animal Society helps thousands of animals in need. Volunteers help provide medical attention, food, shelter and love to every animal in our care.

Volunteers are a vital part of our everyday operations. They help with:

On-Site:

  • Walking, socializing and enriching the lives of dogs
  • Caring for cats and kittens
  • Assisting in our spay/neuter clinic
  • Helping with laundry and cleaning

Off-Site

  • Helping with adoptions and special events
  • Transporting animals during emergency response efforts
  • Other roles as needed

The Basics of Volunteering

Volunteers must be at least 18 years old to serve in our main volunteer program. Please visit our Youth Volunteer page for information on opportunities for volunteers under 18.

We do not accept volunteers who are looking to complete court-ordered community service.

Several volunteer positions require role-specific training, which can be scheduled and completed after attending a volunteer orientation.
