Charleston area Chosen as a partner Community by the ASPCA

Through its participation in ASPCA® Partner Community™, Charleston County has pledged to move towards a 75 percent save rate for homeless companion animals by the year 2012. In collaboration with three groups—Charleston Animal Society, Pet Helpers, and Humane Net. ASPCA partner communities aim to create a country of humane communities, one community at a time, where animals receive the compassion and respect due to them as sentient beings, and where there is no more unnecessary euthanasia of adoptable animals simply because of a lack of resources or awareness.
Founded in 1866, the ASPCA was the first humane organization established in the Americas, and today has more than one million supporters throughout North America. A 501 [c] [3] not-for-profit corporation, the ASPCA’s mission is to provide effective means for the prevention of cruelty to animals throughout the United States. The ASPCA provides local and national leadership in animal-assisted therapy, animal behavior, animal poison control, anti-cruelty, humane education, legislative services, and shelter outreach. The New York City headquarters houses a full-service, accredited, animal hospital, adoption center, and mobile clinic outreach program.
Because of the generous support of the ASPCA through grants and sharing of their boundless expertise, the Charleston Animal Society and our other partners in the LowCountry have been able to save lives through adoption events, spay/neuter events and education programs.
