It is illegal to neglect,abuse,torment or torture an animal
It is illegal to steal or kill a pet
It is illegal to participate in dog-fighting even as a spectator
South Carolina law prohibits these activities and a conviction of animal cruelty may bring a fine of up to $5,000 and imprisonment for up to five years. The Charleston Animal Society is an integral part of local cruelty investigations and houses,protects and treats hundreds of abuse cases each year.
