2009 Charleston Animal Society Annual Meeting and Awards Ceremony

On January 19th the Charleston Animal Society held it's Annual Meeting and Awards Ceremony. Humane Society Board Members, Staff and guests met to honor individuals and businesses suportive of the organization.

The meeting was called to order by  CAS Board of Directors' Treasurer, Mr. Hilton Smith III. Mr. Joe Elmore from the ASPCA gave a recap of the ASPCA Partnership between Charleston Animal Society, Pet Helpers and Humane Net, for the year 2009. Mr. Elmore praised the Charleston community for their combined effort to save lives. Our goal to increase live releases in 2009 by 10% was achieved and we received national attention for our innovative adoption and spay/neuter events. Following his presentation we held our annual awards ceremony. Each year the staff and Board of Directors nominates individuals and businesses who have gone above and beyond to support the mission of the shelter and to support animal welfare in our community. These individuals were honored for alleviating animal suffering, their help to educate the public about animal issues and for their role in sustaining our life-saving shelter.
