Frequently Asked Questions

Q.  I turned in my application, now what?
A.  You will receive an email within one week of submitting your application.  If it is approved you will receive the upcoming orientation dates and can select the most convenient to attend.  EVERY volunteer must complete an orientation class.

Q.  Can my child volunteer?
A.  Yes, we love having kids help!  However, children must be 10 years or older to volunteer in the shelter and MUST be accompanied by a guardian at ALL times.  Both the child and guardian must attend volunteer orientation.  An age requirement of 18 years and older is required in some areas of the shelter – this will be highlighted in the orientation.

Q.  If I have volunteered at other shelters do I still have to attend orientation?
A.  Yes, every shelter is different and it’s important to learn our facility, animals, and guidelines.

Q.  Do I have to volunteer a specific number of hours each week?
A.  No, we do not have requirements around time spent volunteering.  We do love to see you though and always need help!

Q.  Do I have to commit to one type of job or area of the shelter?
A.  No, you are more than welcome to change jobs whenever you’d like!

Q.  Is there a dress code?
A.  We will provide you with a volunteer t-shirt once you’ve attended orientation.  You will wear that along with long pants and close-toed shoes to prevent injury.

Q.  Can I complete court ordered community service at CAS?
A.  We do not participate in court ordered community service programs.

Q.  Can I complete community service for a school or church requirement?
A.  Absolutely, we are happy to help you fulfill those types of requirements.  We hope that you stay on as a volunteer after you meet your required hours.
